Fitness Can Trump Hypertension Genes
New research published in the American Heart Association's journal Hypertension, found that highly fit people who had a parent with hypertension had a 34% lower risk of developing high good pressure themselves compared to low-fitness individuals. While family history and genes are important, genes can be turned on and off by lifestyle factors such as exercise and diet, and even stress levels and sleep. Functional medicine uses all of these approaches.
