Flaxseed and Blood Pressure

A study presented at the American Heart Association 2012 Scientific Session showed that over a 6 month period of time, people with hypertension and peripheral artery disease were able to lower their blood pressure significantly with 30 grams of flaxseed daily. The researchers were unable to determine which component of flaxseed was responsible for the  drop, since there are several candidates: alpha-linolenic acid, enterolignans, and fiber. Systolic pressure declined by 10-15mmHg and diastolic by 7 mmHg.
