The Brain and Overeating
It shouldn't come as a big surprise, but the brain plays a big role in appetite and foods we choose. A recent study published in Trends in Endocrinology and Metabolism suggests that the increase in obesity may be related to a heightened sensitivity to heavily advertised and easily accessible high-calorie foods. Seeing these ads probably helps activate certain parts of the brain that contribute to appetite and motivation and probably food choices. Overall television is not good for your waistline, be it the sitting or the unhealthy food advertisements.
