A study published online in PLoS One showed an association between trans fat consumption and aggressive and irritable behavior. 945 participants were seen between 1999 and 2004, 68% were male, 80% were white, and the mean age was 57 years. The increase in aggression was valid across all age groups and men and women. Trans fats themselves may be the cause, as they will affect the composition of fats in the brain. However, a diet high in trans fats is high in processed food. This is probably a diet deficient in many nutrients, and may also indicate other lifestyle issues, such as eating on the run.
