White Rice Increase Risk for Type 2 Diabetes

The March 16 issue of the British Medical Journal has a study looking at the amount of white rice eaten in both Asia and Western world and the incidence of Type 2 diabetes. They found that the more white rice one eats, the higher the risk for Type 2 diabetes. White rice has a high glycemic index. In other words it raises your blood sugar fast. It also doesn't contain some of the nutrients that brown rice does: magnesium, fibre, and many B vitamins. These results held true for both Asians and Westerners.
