Low-Fat Dairy Foods Linked to Reduced Stroke Risk

The April 19 issue of Stroke includes a prospective Swedish study that found that those who consumed low-fat dairy, rather than full-fat dairy, had a lower risk of stroke. 74,961 Swedish adults aged 45 to 83 were followed from 1998 until 2008. Exactly what component of low-fat milk was protective is unknown. I prefer people consume low-fat dairy rather than non-fat dairy. I believe the fat keeps the blood sugar from rising rapidly. I hope we'll see some research on that at some point.
