Barefoot Running More Efficient

At the 59th Annual Meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine several studies were presented regarding running in minimalist or barefoot like shoes. One study showed that competitive runners cut about 20 seconds off a one mile run by running barefoot. Another study showed an increase in injuries in serious runners who used these shoes. However the number of injuries was still low.  Another study showed runners to be more efficient and consume less oxygen when running barefoot on a treadmill. The bottom line is to transition slowly to these minimalist shoes.
